EBC/Gokyo
Everest Base Camp (EBC), Kala Patthar, Cho La Pass, and Gokyo Lakes Trek ,The Everest Base Camp (EBC) Trek, is the most popular trekking route among hikers and mountaineers as there are some of the most spectacular summits along the way. The route to the EBC is exactly the same historic path that had to be done for the first ascent of Everest back in 1953. It’s especially for those who want to fulfill their dreams to come under Everest’s spell and experience the view of the highest peaks in the world. Mt. Everest is located in the Sagarmatha (Nepalese name of the Mt. Everest) National Park in the eastern part of Nepal with a height of 8848m. The starting and return point of the trek is Lukla.
Commonly, the trek from Lukla to the EBC, including reaching Kala Patthar, takes 14 days. You cannot see Mt. Everest from the EBC. So if you are not interested in visiting the EBC, the trek to Kala Patthar and back to Lukla usually takes 12 days and reaches an altitude of 5545m. Kala Patthar is one of the most famous mountains for panoramic views in the world. Seeing the sunrise reflecting from the summit of Mt. Everest is just fascinating and great.
On our way (both to the EBC and Kala Patthar), we will pass many small Sherpa villages, including the famous trading town of Namche Bazaar. Here we will have an extra day for acclimatization. On this day, we are going to have a side trip to an Everest viewpoint, and we can visit the Tengboche Monastery (3867m). Apart from the way up to the EBC on the last day, which is covered by moraine and rocky ground, the conditions of the paths are really good. We have to start walking early in the morning to see a clear blue sky. After 12 o’clock, clouds can suddenly rise and darken the sky. In order to maintain our schedule, we need to walk 4 to 5 hours a day. At the end of each day, we will sleep in teahouses along the way.
On the day we set off to Kala Patthar, we have to leave our accommodation with the first beams of light coming up in order to have a great panoramic view from the top of Kala Patthar. The view from Kala Patthar is the highlight for the majority of the trekking groups because of the captivating sight. The Solukhumbu district is not only famous for its highest mountains and great views but also for the Sherpa villages and monasteries. Mountains along our way: Mt. Everest, Kwangde, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kusum Kanguru, Pumori, and Nuptse can be seen on our way.
From EBC and Kala Patthar, the trek continues to Cho La Pass, which is challenging but offers stunning views. After crossing Cho La Pass, you will reach the beautiful Gokyo Lakes and climb Gokyo Ri for another panoramic view of Everest and surrounding peaks. Key Highlights:- Stunning views of Everest and other Himalayan peaks. – Visit the famous Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar for unparalleled sunrise views. – Cross the challenging and scenic Cho La Pass. – Explore the serene and picturesque Gokyo Lakes and climb Gokyo Ri.
