Everest Short Trek – 7 Days

Typically, it takes around 5 to 7 days and includes a trek to places like Namche Bazaar, the Everest View Hotel, and Tengboche Monastery. The best times to undertake the Everest Short Trek are during the pre-monsoon (spring) season from March to May and the post-monsoon (autumn) season from late September to November. The winter months can be very cold, and the summer monsoon season brings heavy rain and potential for landslides.

The Everest Short Trek is considered moderate in terms of difficulty. It is suitable for trekkers who are in good physical condition and have some experience with trekking or hiking. While it is shorter and less strenuous than the Everest Base Camp trek, you will still be walking at high altitudes, so a good level of fitness and acclimatization to altitude are important.

Packing for the Everest Short Trek requires preparation for a range of weather conditions. Essential items include:

• Sagarmatha National Park Permit: This is required for entering the Sagarmatha National Park, where the Everest region is located. It can be obtained at the Nepal Tourism Board office or at the entrance to the park in Monjo.

The Everest Short Trek usually begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, a small town in the Khumbu region. The flight is a highlight of the trek, offering stunning views of the Himalayas. After landing in Lukla, you’ll start your trek towards Namche Bazaar. It’s advisable to book your flights in advance, as they can be subject to weather delays, and ensure you have some flexibility in your itinerary.

Teahouses along the trek offer a variety of food options. While you can enjoy traditional Nepali dishes like dal bhat (lentil soup with rice), you’ll also find international fare such as pasta, pizza, and sandwiches. It’s recommended to stick to well-cooked, easily digestible foods to avoid gastrointestinal issues, and always drink boiled or treated water to prevent waterborne illnesses.

Electricity and Wi-Fi are available in many teahouses along the Everest Short Trek route, but the quality and availability can vary. Charging electronic devices may come with a small fee, and Wi-Fi can be slow or intermittent. For better connectivity and to save on charging costs, consider carrying a portable power bank and download any essential information or entertainment before you start your trek.

Accommodation along the Everest Short Trek route is provided in teahouses or lodges. These are basic but generally comfortable. Rooms are typically shared with other trekkers, and facilities might include a mattress, blanket, and pillow. Bathrooms are often shared and may be basic or even involve squat toilets. In higher altitudes, the conditions may become more basic, but teahouses are usually well-maintained and designed to cater to trekkers.
