When planning a trip to Nepal, there are several key factors to consider:

  • Season and weather conditions in Nepal
  • Type of trip (e.g., short trekking, long trekking, off-the-beaten-path treks, tours, adventure sports, religious tours, photography tours)
  • Culture, practices, and traditions of the destinations you will explore
  • Maximum elevation you will reach
  • Morning, day, and night temperatures at the places you’ll visit
  • Conditions of the trekking/hiking trails

Understanding these factors is essential for effective packing. This knowledge helps you avoid unnecessary items and ensures you know what to bring and what to leave behind. Below is a list of important packing and equipment items for trekking in Nepal

Upper Body (Head, Face & Neck):

  • Sunglasses
  • Scarf or Face Mask
  • Sunscreen (SPF 50+)
  • Chapstick
  • Sun Hat/Cap
  • Moisturizers
  • Face Towels
  • Neck Gaiters

  • Fleece Trousers or Woolen Pants (for nighttime)
  • Trekking Pants (preferably stretchable, quick-dry, water-resistant)
  • Polypropylene Thermal Bottoms (especially for high mountain trekking)
  • Trekking/Hiking Boots (GORE-TEX preferred)
  • Socks and Underwear (5+ sets)
  • Floaters, Sandals
  • Crampons (for winter treks in the mountains)
  • Snow Gaiters (essential for the rainy season, snowfall, and crossing ice)

Essential Things for Trekking in Nepal

General Essentials:

  • Torchlight or Headlamp
  • Trekking Bags (one small 15-20L for yourself & 50-60L for your gear, which will be carried by a porter). Alternatively, we provide a duffel bag for your gear during trekking.
  • Water Bottle
  • Trekking Poles

Important Documents and Items:

  • Passport with several copies
  • 2 Passport-sized photographs for trekking permits
  • Mobile Phone, Charger, Headphones, and Universal Adapters
  • Money for the trip (preferably US Dollars & Euros)
  • Personal Medicine and Doctor’s Prescription if needed
  • Travel Insurance
  • Round Trip Flight Tickets
  • Currency, Credit/Debit Cards

Optional Items:

  • Spare Batteries for Camera
  • Playing Cards and Reading Books
  • Cameras & Video Cameras
  • Laptop and iPads (if you are planning a longer stay in Nepal)
  • Sports Watch, Earphones, and AirPods

Additional Note: We provide duffel bags, sleeping bags, and down jackets upon request. These items should be returned after completing your trek and adventure activities. If you cannot find the above-mentioned items in your location, we can assist you in purchasing them in Kathmandu or renting some of the gear.
