Overview
Kongde Peak Climbing difficult mountain forms an impressive multi–summited ridge on the eastern end of the Lumding Himal, which in turn can be regarded as part of the Rolwaling Himal. Rising southwest of Namche Bazaar above the Bhote Koshi, the mountain’s northern flank forms an impressive barrier that throws down several steep ridges to the north. Its glaciated southern flank is more aloof. This peak was first submitted by a Nepalese expedition led by Kumar Khagdar and Bikram Shah in 1975. All of the routes climbed to date on the Kwangde Peaks are difficult, none have proved suitable for commercial trekking peak expeditions. The routes on The North Face are particularly difficult and reflect recent developments in lightweight Himalayan climbing, with an emphasis on technical difficulty.
Kongde Peak (6,011 m.) climbing starts after we take a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla airport and start trekking towards Phakding. Our trekking trail takes us all the way through the Khumbu region passing beautiful rhododendron forests, famous monasteries yak pasture lands, beautiful mountains, and rugged topography towards the Namche bazaar. Kongde Peak (6,011 m.) is situated just above this famous Sherpa village a ghat way to Khumbu region. The northern part of the mountain forms an impressive barrier having several steep ridges to the north. From Namche bazaar, we start ascending up to reach Kwangde base camp at 4,700 m. From the base camp, we climb up through some glaciers and steep rocky faces to approach the summit of the peak. This peak contains several fascinating summits among them the actual summit ranging from the south-east are the summit of Nup (6,035 m./19,799 ft.), Kwangde Lho (6,187m.), Kwangde Shar (6,093 m.) and several lower summits terminating in Nupla (5,885 m.).
Kongde Peak (6,011m.) climbing is indeed a technically difficult and demanding trekking peak that requires a pre-climbing experience.
